Title: ●Procedures for Disclosure of Records Under the Freedom of Information Act | |
Abstract:
SSS is proposing to amend its regulations to meet the requirements of the FOIA Improvement Act of 2016, Public Law 114-185, 130 Stat. 538 (the Act). The Act requires all agencies to review and update their FOIA regulations and addresses a range of procedural issues, including establishing a minimum of 90 days for requesters to file an administrative appeal and providing dispute resolution services at various times throughout the FOIA process. As the SSS is improving its regulations, we seek to increase participation and engagement with members of the public affected by our regulations, including in the development of our regulatory priorities. Throughout our external engagement with the public, the SSS seeks and welcomes comments from members of the public who have not typically participated in the regulatory process, including families of males required to register and all others impacted by the SSS regulations. Revision and updates to our rules are also intended to streamline and make the SSS more effective and responsive. |
