SSS RIN: 3240-AA04 Publication ID: Fall 2023
Title: ●Social Security Number Fraud Prevention
Abstract:

The Social Security Number Fraud Prevention Act requires SSS to specify the circumstances under which inclusion of the Social Security Number (SSN) is necessary on a mailed document. SSS is issuing this direct final rule to comply with the Social Security Number Fraud Prevention Act to include instructions for partial redaction of the SSN where feasible as well as a requirement that SSNs not be visible on the outside of any mail.

This revision to our rules is also intended to streamline and make the SSS more effective and responsive.
