Terms of Clearance:
Approved as amended by NSF's 8/28/92 memorandum to OMB. In addition, NSF has agreed to present to the Proposal Award Advisory Committee the revision of submission requirements, to allow PIs the option of submitting their curriculum vitae in lieu of listing collaborators ove the last 4 years. The CV could provide an alternate source of persons with whom PIs have collaborated, so they would not have to create an additional list for the application. NSF would analyze this experimen to determine the extent to which the vitae would have duplicated the currently required separate list of collaborators. -- We reassert the condition of clearance regarding response rates for mail reviewers, which have until recently averaged 30 to 50 percent -- necessitating additional copies of grant proposals from applicants. N shall continue to take measures to increase this rate and reduce the number of applicant copies. -- NSF shall report on both of these issues to OMB within the next six months, by the end of February 1993.

THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS RESEARCH IN MOST SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES, SCIENCE EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH POLICY. THIS REPORT IS MADE THROUGH GRANTS, CONTRACTS, AND OTHER AGREEMENTS AWARDED TO UNIVERSITIES, UNIVERSITY CONSORTIA, NONPROFIT, AND OTHER RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS.
