Terms of Clearance:
Approved for use through 4/2000 under the condition that the NCHS submits to OMB for the public record a summary description of its household sampling/roster methodology and an explanation of roster methodologies employed in other major HHS and Federal health surveys. OMB also encourages NCHS to continue its regular consultations with ASPE, Census, and OMB on survey design issues related to health care and welfare reform.

Abstract:
The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is a multipurpose survey conducted to comply with the National Center for Health Statistics' (NCHS) mandate under 42 U.S.C. 242K to secure statistical information on the amount, distribution, and effects of illness and disability in the United States and the service rendered for or because of such conditions.
