Approved consistent with SAMHSA and HHS memos submitted to OMB. SAMHSA has indicated to OMB that funds from DASIS will be used, consistent with the FY 2005 President's Budget, to fund the projected shortfall for costs of the survey incurred in FY 05. Prior to submitting the 2006 NSDUH request to OMB for approval, SAMHSA must provide a report to OMB specifically detailing a plan for completing the FY 06 survey within the approved Budget allocation in the FY 06 Presidents Budget.

Abstract:
The NSDUH (formerly the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse) is a survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and over. The data are used to estimate the prevalence of cigarette, alcohol and illicit drug use, and abuse of licit drugs. Results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, and other Federal agencies and other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct program activities, and better allocate resources. Beginning in 1999, the survey includes an expanded tobacco module and the sample is expanded to provide State level estiamts for all States and the District..
