Short Statement:
The Commission surveyed 16 tribes and/or tribal regulatory authorities. Based on this tribal feedback, the Commission has made adjustments to its estimated burdens. The estimated annual burden hour total has been significantly revised downwards from 878,273 to 406,905. This decrease occurred despite the slight increase in the number of annual respondents from 898 to 931(reflecting the increased number of gaming operations conducting audits) and was primarily caused by the dramatic fall in the reported amount of time that tribal personnel spent conducting and/or procuring an independent audit under § 571.12. Tribes reported spending, on average, 290 hours on this activity as opposed to the previous estimate of 1,506.75 hours. The estimated annual cost total decreased from $47,948,291 to $34,349,884. The principal reason for this decrease was due to the fact that the average cost of an audit (per § 571.12) decreased from $105,305 to $72, 563.
