Title: Rules Pertaining to Notification of Railroad Accidents | |
Abstract:
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) plans to revise 49 CFR part 840, which contains notification requirements applicable to railroad events. Operators of railroads are required to notify the NTSB of certain occurrences on railroads. The NTSB plans to update the definitions section of part 840 with some substantive changes. The proposed updates to part 840 will modernize the regulations as needed. The NTSB’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for revising part 840 follows a notice the NTSB published in the Federal Register in June 2012, which indicated the NTSB would review all NTSB regulations and amend them to ensure they are up-to-date, in accordance with Executive Orders 13563 and 13579.
In the interest of economy and efficiency, the NTSB has merged this RIN (AA12) into RIN 3147-AA11, which identifies plans to modernize the NTSB's regulations for reporting aircraft accidents and incidents. The NTSB has decided to issue a single NPRM to modernize its regulations for notification of aircraft and railroad accidents and incidents. See RIN 3147-AA11 for all future activities related to revising parts 830 and 840.
